At Horizon Private School – American Branch, our College and Career Counseling program empowers students to make confident and informed decisions about their future. We provide dedicated support to help each student discover their passions and navigate the path to their “best-fit” university and career.
The program is led by our College and Career Counselor, Ms. Laiba Obaid, and supports every Horizon student from Grade 6 through Grade 12 — beginning with broad self-discovery in middle school and building toward structured, individualized counseling throughout high school.
Our Vision. Every Child Known, Every Child Valued, Every Child Prepared.
Helping students identify interests and explore future career pathways starting in middle school.
Guiding students to research and select local and international universities that match their academic and personal goals.
Providing hands-on assistance with all aspects of the university application process.
Offering resources and information for tests such as the SAT, ACT, and IELTS.
Connecting students directly with universities from around the world.
We are committed to working closely with students and their families throughout this exciting journey.
Planning develops step by step, so students arrive in Grade 12 with the groundwork already laid.
| Grade | Stage | What Students Do |
|---|---|---|
| Grades 6–8 | Exploration | Counselor-led sessions using Horizon’s Unifrog careers curriculum help students build self-awareness and begin exploring the world of work. |
| Grade 9 | Awareness | Structured planning begins. Students explore their interests, strengths, skills, and values, and start building a personal profile on Unifrog. |
| Grade 10 | Exploration | Focused exploration of career areas, university majors, subject requirements, and different countries and university systems. |
| Grade 11 | Preparation | A critical planning year: university programs, admission requirements, standardized tests, and scholarships — ending with a clear, personalized roadmap. |
| Grade 12 | Transition | Students take ownership of their applications, respond to offers, apply for scholarships, and prepare for the transition to university life. |
Depending on a student’s goals and circumstances, options after Horizon may include universities and colleges, professional and vocational education, foundation and pathway programs, gap-year opportunities, employment and entrepreneurship, and other recognized post-secondary pathways. Every route is treated as equally valid, because every child is valued.
Over the last three graduating classes (2024–2026), 150 Horizon graduates have enrolled at universities in 22 countries — 56% in the UAE and 44% abroad.
The Class of 2026 enrolled at 33 universities in 12 countries, including Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, the University of Toronto, the University of Alberta, the University of Birmingham, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Arizona State University.
Each year, universities visit Horizon so students can speak with representatives in person.
University talks and webinars throughout the year, some open to parents, and alumni who return to share their experiences.
Unifrog for career exploration and application planning, and a monthly update through Toddle on open days, webinars, workshops, and internship opportunities.
